On May 22, 2014 our working life changed bigtime. It was then the incredible CEDAR DOG passed away at 11:30 am. Truth is, Dog, Cat and People growing older is a subject we share everywhere–all over the earth. Our pooch’s LOVE was for sure a mainstay. Love warms our hearts, soothes pain and offers amazing times.

Then our family’s canine companion was 16 years of age. She personified kindnesses; unconditional love, forgiveness, and loyalty. She always stood out!

The first half of her life was spent calming down from the cruelty she experienced as a young dog. It took her more than a year to trust a two-legged again. Her four-legged mentors were two Chesapeake Bay retriever sisters, Abby Jean and Brady Sue. The latter half of her life was about fulfilling her life purpose with “her paws” always being in action.

She became the author of Doggone Green-A Call to Action to Save Our Earth book. Next was the workbook, a kid friendly resource sketchbook. The artworks are rich; they liven up her teaching lessons. Learners are fun-loving winners. Her eco-agenda is laid-back and steadfast. Save Our Pets, Save Mother Earth, and Safeguard Our Total Health.

Later on her years of pet therapy visits were marked with (2-legged) backers in care facilities. Light-hearted blogs inspired pets and people to action; her creative and persistent “oomph” of “Greening Your Pet” plus Going Doggone Green is the never-ending. PetSaver™ Pet CPR, First Aid & Care-PetTech Inc. Then SHE ran for MAYOR of “anywhere and everywhere” raising funds for a new community animal shelter in her county with politicos the world over.

Pets Gone Green by Cedar Dog sure made certain an ongoing set of courses are always available for pet parents, both awareness and hands-on skills to perk-up pet’s health and well-being. She knew a smarter pet parent was about preparedness and promotion on an Appeal to Action—SAVE OUR EARTH!

We’d be lax if we bungled not reminding readers again ALL of Cedar’s favorite projects; the “gather-up poop” agenda actions was at the top of the girl’s list. It was hard, working to “bark back” at pet parents. “What you have to do” is scoop-up feline poop and help pet parents find alternative litters, no more clay based litter. In fact one of her honors was Cat’s against Clay, “a cats-only member group fighting for litter box reform,” enshrined her as an honorary member.

A Mayor in California once resigned after being caught on video throwing a bag of dog poop in a neighbor’s yard. Cedar called it Pooper-gate! She knew there was “power” in the putrid mess; powering lights in a city park, triggering disputes and always being careful not to blunder and step in it.

Being your Writer CEDAR DOG was Telling YOUR Story. A Notable Ride of a Lifetime FOR Mother Earth! You LOVED Full-Out! You Taught LOYALTY! You Were a GENIUS! We LOVED YOU Hugely!

Hillary cat in Chicago

Hillary cat here, to those who know me, I have “spunk and attitude.” Cedar dog asked me to write a blog ‘cos I am one troubled feline. I think cats get a bad rap! Yesterday on TV, two pieces showed up. First thingie, Monday March 10th, Good Morning America (GMA, a program I don’t usually watch & now I know why) segment was on brushing your pet’s teeth. Now don’t misunderstand I love my pooch bro and “big sis” big-time and they always get TV attention and phone calls and chatter about their lives. Me on the other paw, I have to scrape around on my own for everything. Someone tell me WHY felines are snubbed. I am so over it.

Pepper Roker dog

So this is the deal; Pepper Roker, that’s Al Roker’s dog, had his teeth brushed by dad in this pet health segment of GMA. First off, National Pet Dental Health month was February; I guess they just didn’t have time in February to brush pet’s teeth, and Pepper dog acted as though he had really not had his teeth ever, ever brushed. Yep, I’m saying it was all for the cameras. Then another dog appeared; the point, where were the cats? Now we need our “pearly whites” brushed too. See what I mean, we just don’t count.

I want you to know, I do matter in my menage. I get to go along with the dog’s, like now we are in Chicago. My Mom’s do these great PetSaver, Pet First Aid classes. That’s where pet parents learn how to save our lives if we get in trouble and Mom teaches how to do a Snout-To-Tail Assessment.  Last night I was summoned to go along to class; they practiced identifying my vitals. That’s when I was checked out from snout to tail to see if I have any injuries and a wellness check to create a base-line of my health. My vet says that is sooooo good cause then she knows when things change and are not-normal, like the early signs of some sickness or a big boob-boob. You really should think about taking one of these courses, they are paw-some! Mom teaches brushing the teeth too, cause just like  human teeth and gums, ours need to be cared for on a regular basis too.

The other TV clip on pets yesterday was on felines; this report made us sound really creepy. The cat’s name was Lux, a 22-pound Himalayan who lives in Portland, OR. They said Lux attacked their 7-month-old child, “scratching the baby’s forehead.” Dad then kicked Lux “in the rear” and the cat “went off over the edge.” The dude called 911 saying Lux was “trying to attack us, he’s very, very, very, very hostile.” The family fled, reportedly locking themselves in their bedroom with the baby and the family dog while waiting for the police. Oh well, what can I say! I don’t excuse violence of any kind be it the cat or the human; this family may not be best suited for a cat in their family.

I feel better now! Getting things out and letting readers hear what’s on my mind is really good for me. You got thoughts?

Mom and I had a message from a pal and her pooch a while back; her uneasiness, forgotten heroines. It turns out to be the incredible story of Irena Sendler Irena in 2005and her dog. When we read this story we strained to imagine how Irena’s work took place each day; electing to put her and her companion animal in danger to support her WHY in the world. “Every child saved with my help is the justification of my existence on this Earth, and not a title to Glory.” (Irena Sendler in her own words, photo to right is Irena in 2005)

Sendler was a Polish social worker who conceived extraordinary ways to sneak children out of the Warsaw Ghetto then guarded by Nazis. She protected them and moved them to safety. Irena and her network concealed these children in orphanages and convents.

Irena, the Social Worker

Irena, the Social Worker

“Irena was the prime mover that saved 2,500 Jewish children,” reports Wiki, and credited with directly smuggling out hundreds of children herself. Sendler saved the names of the kids she smuggled out, hiding their names in glass jars and burying them under a tree in her backyard. Post-war she attempted to locate any parents that might have survived in an effort to reunite the families. Regrettably, most had been gassed. The kids she helped got placed into foster families or adopted.

Giles Milton an internationally best-selling author of popular history writes, “In 1943, Sendler was arrested by the Gestapo. They’d grown suspicious of her activities and realised she was working on behalf of Warsaw’s Jews. She was beaten, severely tortured by her guards and then sentenced to death for refusing to give them any information. News of her impending execution reached Żegota, the secret Council to Aid Jews, who managed to save her by bribing a German guard as she was led away to be killed. She was listed on the bulletin boards as among those who’d been executed, something that enabled her to live in hiding for the rest of the war.”

Sendler never won the Nobel Peace Prize despite being nominated for it in 2007. In our time there exists “Life in a Jar: The Irena Sendler Project – and book by Jack Mayer all based on the True Story of the heroine and the Kansas Teens who “Rescued the Rescuer.” There is a play on her life presented around the United States, also a Hallmark movie, The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler. The rescuer passed away in 2008 at 98 years old. Meet the personalities that have brought this story to life.

Tell us what you think! Will you share your WHY in today’s world?

Sochi, Russia  authorized a revolting practice; the genocide of stray dogs/cats.  As a dog myself, I can’t get my muzzle around these stories coming out of Sochi, where the winter Olympic games will begin in a few days. Stray animals being exterminated to guarantee the safety of visitors and improve Sochi’s image to the global community? Russia has spent fifty-one billion dollars to ready for the 2014 Winter Olympics with the intent of marketing a “new Russia?” The slaughter of down-and-out animals is sanctioned in the “new Russia?”

Reports from the region say a private extermination company was hired to “scour” the city of thousands of homeless pets. The company owner described the animals as “biological trash,” he claims to use poisons and traps; others say dog hunting vigilantes are on the rise and it is not uncommon to find “poison-laced meat set in parks to kill off strays.”

Animals rights activists in Moscow claim, Russians generally are irresponsible dog owners who, when they get bored of their home pet experiment, kick them out on the street, and parks are dumping grounds for unwanted dogs.” Sterilizations are not common practice; they are reported to be “too expensive.”

From (Doggone Green Headquarters) My Doggone Green Agenda unmistakably has not been adopted by the Russians, yet!! Vladimir Putin’s companion animals have a one-of-a-kind lifestyle as evidenced by photos of him frolicking with his dogs and let’s not forget, his political side-kick Koni who has greeted world leaders for years. Obviously the United Nations Canine Unit hasn’t been summoned to Russia either?

While witnessing something from “far away” how does your community address animal homelessness? What about the shelter killing of healthy dogs and cats? You will note I said “healthy.”
