Cowardice in Lead-up to 2014 Winter Olympics

Sochi, Russia authorized a revolting practice; the genocide of stray dogs/cats. As a dog myself, I can’t get my muzzle around these stories coming out of Sochi, where the winter Olympic games will begin in a few days. Stray animals being exterminated to guarantee the safety of visitors and improve Sochi’s image to the global community? Russia has spent fifty-one billion dollars to ready for the 2014 Winter Olympics with the intent of marketing a “new Russia?” The slaughter of down-and-out animals is sanctioned in the “new Russia?”
Reports from the region say a private extermination company was hired to “scour” the city of thousands of homeless pets. The company owner described the animals as “biological trash,” he claims to use poisons and traps; others say dog hunting vigilantes are on the rise and it is not uncommon to find “poison-laced meat set in parks to kill off strays.”
Animals rights activists in Moscow claim, “Russians generally are irresponsible dog owners who, when they get bored of their home pet experiment, kick them out on the street, and parks are dumping grounds for unwanted dogs.” Sterilizations are not common practice; they are reported to be “too expensive.”
From (Doggone Green Headquarters) My Doggone Green Agenda unmistakably has not been adopted by the Russians, yet!! Vladimir Putin’s companion animals have a one-of-a-kind lifestyle as evidenced by photos of him frolicking with his dogs and let’s not forget, his political side-kick Koni who has greeted world leaders for years. Obviously the United Nations Canine Unit hasn’t been summoned to Russia either?
While witnessing something from “far away” how does your community address animal homelessness? What about the shelter killing of healthy dogs and cats? You will note I said “healthy.”
